The fire and security company will fit and commission the systems over the next 10 weeks as work progresses on the £14m Connah’s Quay site.

Students and tutors at the post-16 facility, which will provide specialist performing arts, music, science and creative arts facilities, will be protected by a Kentec/Hochiki fire alarm system and a Honeywell Galaxy intruder alarm.

The contract win continues Jackson Fire & Security’s successful track record of providing safety services for the education sector. The company, which has branches in Liverpool, Warrington, Wirral, Mold, Cambridge and Glasgow, supplies a number of schools, colleges and universities across North Wales and Cheshire.

The firm’s project manager, David Clegg, said: “We’ve got an enviable reputation for working in the education sector, and this new contract continues our expertise in the field.

“As it’s a busy site that will be used by hundreds of people every day, it’s important we installed the right kind of safety equipment for all the staff and students.“

“The sixth form centre is one of the most significant projects being built in North Wales, and we’re pleased to be playing a part in its development.”

The systems will be fitted under the electrical package through Rhyl-based contractor Fred Weston Electrical Contractors, which is carrying out all electrical installations on site. The main contractor for the project is Wynne Construction.

Coleg Cambria’s head of estates & facilities, Rick Bedson, said: “Coleg Cambria considers the safety of staff, students and visitors of paramount importance.

“We are delighted to be working with Jackson Fire & Security to ensure that the measures and controls being installed at the our Deeside sixth form centre provide the best possible level of protection.”

Jackson Fire & Security already supplies fire safety maintenance services at four of Coleg Cambria’s existing campuses. Last year, a team of engineers that originally trained at Coleg Cambria went back to the college’s Wrexham campus to install a new fire alarm system.

Formed in 1991, the company employs 31 people and has built a reputation for quality, reliability and service, and is a NSI and Siemens’ gold-accredited partner for fire and security systems.

As well as specialising in fire extinguisher maintenance and installation, the firm also protects commercial premises with CCTV for businesses.
