Strategic Analytics Team opens logistics Centre of Excellence in Iraq

"We want this centre to be the go-to training establishment for the logistics sector, for those just breaking into the industry to those already in employment and looking to develop their skills."
Paul Jorgensen, Senior Partner at SAT

The facility in Rumaila, about 80km north west of Basra City, was officially opened on Tuesday 10th October at an event that saw more than 50 people attend, including the Kuwaiti Consul General, Basra Provincial Council, Basra Civil Defence Corps, The British Council, a number of local companies and representatives from international oil and gas companies.

The impressive Centre of Excellence houses warehouses, offices and workshops as well as a fully-equipped learning centre with lecture rooms and practical training areas and will provide – through SAT – a wide range of training courses relevant to the logistics sector including Warehouse Management, First Aid, Defensive Driver Training, Manual Handling and IT Support. Courses, which will be delivered in both Arabic and English, will be open for anyone to book, from individual students to companies seeking to invest in the personal development of their staff.

Paul Jorgensen, Senior Partner at SAT, said: “The opening of this Centre of Excellence is incredibly exciting for the logistics industry. We have been working with Agility for months now and it is amazing to see our vision come to life. We want this centre to be the go-to training establishment for the logistics sector, for those just breaking into the industry to those who are already in employment and looking to develop their skills and knowledge.”

“We’ll be bringing in trainers who have many years of experience of running logistics operations in places like Iraq and Oman, as well as countries across Europe, Africa and the Asia Pacific. We have also worked hard with other internationally recognised bodies such as the Lifting Equipment Engineers Association (LEEA), The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) and Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), to ensure that our courses are fully accredited and recognised, that successful students can use their certification as part of an ongoing career path, and that employers are guaranteed that the courses meet high standards and are quality assured.”

Colin Hindley, CEO of Agility Iraq, added: “The Centre of Excellence is part of Agility’s ongoing commitment to building Iraq’s infrastructure and human capital. The training centre is a reflection of our ongoing commitment to both the industry and the country, as we seek to build effective skill sets among the local community, particularly in the oil and gas sector. We are strongly committed to building local capacity in our areas of operations, and this new centre is part of this strategy.”
